DCC
Visits to a number of exhibitions convinced me of the value of DCC. I was enthralled by the ability to control lights and other functions and when you have heard sound as well you're never quite the same again! I carried out weeks of research and was just about to embark on one system when someone told me about NCE. I contacted some suppliers and also obtained some advice from the excellent DCC Yahoo Group. It seems that some systems that have been around for a while are in need of a facelift. NCE came highly recommended and seems to be one of the more user friendly systems.
Christmas 2006 and I invested in the NCE Power Pro 5. This should be powerful enough to run a number of locomotives on my layout and be suitable for a larger layout in the future.

My first locomotive, a Bachmann 37, was fitted with a South West Digital sound decoder - as well as a set of head and tail lights from Express Models. Running this for the first time was pretty spine chilling - the sound is fantastic and of course Bachmann locos run so smoothly. Being able to control main and side lights, brake squeal, horns etc adds to the interest. I have since added other locos to my collection.
See the rolling stock section for details of other locos.
