LAST UDATE 7. 11. 2009

My interest in model railways was rekindled about ten years ago - following a long break after the train sets I had as a child.  I started with an N gauge layout in the  garage and it was a steep learning curve.  The garage proved to be so cold in the winter that progress with the layout slowed right down.  First lesson, choose somewhere to work and develop a layout that is comfortable.  The boards were built like a battleship - warp didn't come into it!  Yes - you've guessed it - they were heavy.  I will not bore you with the other lessons I learned.  It is worth considering experimenting though with a smaller layout - learn from your mistakes before embarking on something more substantial.

One day - perhaps when I retire - I plan to develop an OO layout based on the stretch of line on the North Wales coast between Penmaenmawr and Llandudno (1990's to present day).  It will not be possible of course to model this exactly but it will take its inspiration from this fascinating area with its impressive backdrop and views over the Irish Sea.  There has been such a diverse range of passenger and freight rolling stock that makes this area so interesting too.  I have been accumulating engines, coaches and trucks with this layout in mind.  Anyway that's the dream at the moment!  The rolling stock link and image gallery shows some of my rolling stock that will be used on this layout.

In the meantime - Beeches TMD - a 4mm / OO gauge layout.   I have been longing to build a layout as the prospect of more space (a loft or spare room) is not likely to become a reality for a few more years.   So Beeches TMD I hope is going to be a better quality layout that will give me the opportunity to run much of the rolling stock I already own (seven / eight coach trains may have to wait a bit longer).

This is a modern image layout.  It is an imaginary TMD - presumably somewhere in the north west - serving locomotives working in North Wales.  As you can see from the plan, there is an access line - used by local DMU's as well as locomotives accessing the TMD.  This line will lead in the imagination to a main line nearby.  The rolling stock will be 1990's to present.

This is a developing website so come back to it.

Use the links to see how the layout is progressing.  I plan to add more photographs fairly regularly.
