My Bachmann 37 has had addditional pickups fitted at one end. I came across the idea from the following website. I am certain it has contributed towards smoother running, particularly over a two way slip - troublesome at the best of times - even in reality! (Click on the link)

The 37 was so successful I have now fitted additional pickups - front and back - on my Class 66. This has again improved running over troublesome sections. I found that if the current dropped occasionally the sound would cut out. This did not happen very much but could be really annoying.
I have found an excellent company for fitting decoders if you do not want to undertake this yourself. They also provide a weathering and detailing service.
